{"id":12447,"date":"2026-01-02T14:11:34","date_gmt":"2026-01-02T03:11:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ballinagolfclub.com.au\/cms\/?p=12447"},"modified":"2026-01-26T12:13:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-26T01:13:11","slug":"new-format-for-2026-singles-matchplay-championship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ballinagolfclub.com.au\/cms\/2026\/01\/new-format-for-2026-singles-matchplay-championship\/","title":{"rendered":"New Format for 2026 Men&#8217;s Singles Matchplay Championship"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We\u2019re thrilled to announce a revitalised update to the Men&#8217;s Singles Matchplay Championship format for 2026 at Ballina Golf &amp; Sports Club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In recent years, a growing number of scheduled matches have been forfeited, which has impacted the integrity of the competition and the process of crowning a true matchplay champion. To address this, we\u2019ve introduced a dynamic new format that ensures every qualifier plays multiple matches and earns their place in the finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Format Changes:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>World Cup-style Qualification &amp; Group Stage<br><\/strong>Players will qualify through three Saturday rounds in January. The top 32 qualifiers will be seeded into 8 brackets of 4 players each, based on GA Handicap Index. Multiple attempts to qualify are permitted. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Group Stage (Round of 32)<br><\/strong>Each player will play three matches in a round-robin format. Points are awarded for wins and halves, with the top player from each bracket advancing to the Quarter Finals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Knockout Stage<br><\/strong>From the Quarter Finals onward, the format returns to traditional knockout matchplay, culminating in a Final and 3rd Place Playoff.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Expanded Match Windows<br><\/strong>We\u2019ve significantly extended the timeframes for each stage to reduce forfeits and ensure matches are played.
