Last Thursday’s Medley Stableford at Ballina Golf & Sports Club delivered a moment that will go down in golfing folklore. On one of the club’s par-3 holes, members Glenn Tomalty and Tony Parry achieved what can only be described as a once-in-a-lifetime feat: two hole-in-ones in consecutive shots.
The drama unfolded quietly. Tony teed off first, sending a solid shot toward the left side of the green where the pin was tucked. Glenn followed with a lower but well-struck shot in the same direction. From the tee, the hole was blind, so neither player could see where their ball finished.
It wasn’t until the group walked up to the green that the magnitude of what had happened became clear—both balls were in the cup. Two aces, back-to-back, same hole, same group.
Glenn recalls the moment:
“Today I experienced something truly unbelievable in golf. I had my first hole-in-one—and then found out Tony had one too, right before me!“
To put this in perspective, the odds of an amateur golfer making a hole-in-one are estimated at 1 in 12,500. The probability of two players doing it on consecutive shots? Roughly 1 in 156 million. It’s the kind of story that becomes legend.
Congratulations to Glenn and Tony for creating one of the most extraordinary moments in Ballina Golf & Sports Club history.
