Ballina Golf & Sports Club will soon be transitioning from traditional gender‑based tee markers to a skill‑based tee system. This change reflects our commitment to making golf more welcoming, enjoyable, and accessible for all members and guests.
For many golfers, coloured tees have carried an unnecessary stigma. By shifting to a skill‑based model, we’re encouraging every player to choose a tee that best suits their ability, experience, and enjoyment level—regardless of age or gender.
What’s Changing?
The golf course layout itself will remain the same, with only minor adjustments to tee plate positions. The key change involves a refresh of tee marker colours and names:
- Back Markers:
Former Blue Tees → will become Orange Tees - Middle Markers:
Former White Tees → will become Yellow Tees - Forward Markers:
Former Red Tees → will become Green Tees - Short Course (Occasional Use):
New Purple Tees, placed on the fairway—typically adjacent to cart paths.
This short‑course setup will be used for selected events, beginner sessions, development programs, and fun formats.
Why the Change?
- Removes outdated gender-based tee distinctions
- Encourages golfers to play from tees that fit their skill and driving distance
- Enhances enjoyment, pace of play, and course strategy for all
- Aligns the club with modern golf industry best practice
When Will This Happen?
We will begin updating the tee markers over the coming weeks. During this transition, we appreciate your patience as signage, scorecards, and digital systems are updated.
