What is the “General Area” ?

The “General Area” ( GA ) under the old rules of golf was called “Through the Green”.

The definition for the GA is; The area of the course that covers all of the course except for the other four defined areas: 1. The teeing area the player must play from in starting the hole he or she is playing. 2. All penalty areas. 3. All bunkers, and 4. The putting green of the hole the player is playing. This includes all teeing locations on the course other than the teeing area and all wrong greens..

Preferred Lie Local Rules.

A few members have expressed some confusion as to where relief can be taken. Whilst we have to be relevant to the wording within the rules, in the simplest terms our local rules for preferred lies are as follows.

We have two local rules we can use at the moment. One is for all of the course including the rough ( General Area ) the other is for fairways only and grass cut to fairway height or less in the General Area. ( which means no preferred lies in the rough. )

Hope this helps.
